CON MANOS DE MUJER
The Con Manos de Mujer project is run by the Asociación de Productores de Café Zona El Oro (APROCAZO). This group of 24 women joined forces to promote their work and secure a better income for their families.
APROCAZO is a located in Comayagua, a region of high altitude and volcanic soil. As this region is still less well known, the cooperative is striving to work on increasingly high-quality batches to showcase this terroir. It has 63 producer members, including the 24 women who produce this batch.
Their farms are audited by a certifier through a program that also offers workshops and training. The producers have access to training in quality control, barista skills, agronomic management in organic farming and also mechanics courses to repair and maintain pulping machines.
The ‘Con Manos de Mujer’ program aims to give these women more autonomy, resources and tools to play a greater role in the coffee supply chain.
The farms composing this coffee are rather small, from 0.2 to 9hectares, averaging around 5 hectares. This context enables us to understand what motivates them to join forces. By joining forces in a common project, they can look forward to greater financial stability and benefit from the support offered by the program.
The Process
The coffee is processed by our export partner De La Finca (DLF). They have their own vans to collect the cherries from the 24 farms and take them to their washing station. Las Rosas is a team effort!
The Beneficio Humedo is the washing station, where the coffee is pulped, fermented and washed before going to the Beneficio Seco, where it is dried on a patio. Before exportation, the coffee is sorted at the beneficio seco.
