Don Angel is a farm located in the department of La Libertad in the region of Huehuetenango. Huehuetenango is known for its high altitudes and to produce some of the best coffees of the cournty.

Don Angel is names after its first owner, Don Angel de Leon. The farm lays between two steep mountains in La Libertad, between 1700- 1900masl. When Don Angel retired, Nayo Ovalle bought the farm in 2017 spotting the immense potential of the place. The high altitudes, protected by the mountains create a great microclimate to produce high scoring coffees. The farm benefits from cold nights, warm days, and is protected against harsh wind.

It produces today only 3 varieties of Arabica: Caturra, San Ramon and Bourbon; which are older traditional varieties. Nayo has always always been quite minimalist when it comes to producing coffees. While some producers replace older varieties for more resistant ones, at Las Alturas, they want to preserve the exiting crop because of higher complexity in the coffee. Here, the Caturras, Bourbons and San Ramon - a variety that mutated from Typica that adapts well in higher altitudes, give a complex coffee centered on balance and fruity notes.

Nayo Ovalle was born into a family of coffee producers’ tradition. He is a third generation farmer that have lived in coffee farms his whole life. Now being an agronomist, he is focused on producing quality coffee in both washed and natural coffee. Nayo is passionated about his lands and coffee.

This fully washed lot captures the essence for those varieties that grow in that environnement.
